Welcome to my Mah Jongg page.

Mah Jongg or sometimes called shanghai as it is played today is considerably different from the original game of it’s namesake. In fact,
Mah Jongg has evolved into many variations over the centuries.
As far back as 800AD, a card game was played that greatly resembled the way Mah Jongg is played today, except cards were used instead of
tiles. As for the game as we play it today, most evidence points to the development of the game in the mid to late 1800’s in Ningpo China.
It wasn’t until the late 1800’s early 1900’s that we here in the west first got a taste of the marvelous game.
Originally a Chinese game, it was introduced into the US, then Japan and Europe.
I am in no way and expert in the history of Mah Jongg, I am simply an addict of the modern game on the computer. If you want to
learn more about Mah Jongg then I recommend you visit The Maj Exchange.

As for the game I love to play on the computer, I have played probably a couple dozen different versions. my absolute favorite is Kyodai Mahjongg designed and created by Rene-Gilles Deberdt. It has been an evolving product for years and it is obviously a labor of love. I Don’t believe I have come across another shareware product that has been developed and improved as much as Kyodai Mahjongg. In fact, as of this writing it is at version 15.42!
It has both a 2D and 3D interface. The 3D is really cool, but be warned, you need a bit of computer horsepower to use it. It also comes
with other games utilizing the same tiles and interface. Rivers, memory, clicks, slider, and hashira!
Here’s a screenshot of Kyodai Mahjongg:

One of the features that make Kyodai Mahjongg my favorite is the ability to totally customize it with your own tilesets, layouts, backgrounds, and music. In fact, I have made a few tilesets for Kyodai Mahjongg for my friends and family to enjoy. I finally decided to put them up on the web to offer to anyone who would enjoy them. And, yes, you can even use them on the demo version! Check them out and let me know if you like them or not. mahjongg@efxweb.com
