Anonymous FTP Access

Anonymous FTP allows clients to take advantage of the FTP protocol for visitors to their website needing to download large files without a login or password for each visitor. Anonymous FTP can be installed and uninstalled automatically. All EFXWEB Accounts will allow 6 concurrent FTP logins at one time. Any more attempting will receive the message “server full”.

Autoresponders

E-mail autoresponders, also known as autobots, automatically reply to all incoming messages to a specific e-mail address with a pre-defined message. Pre-defined messages can be in plain text or HTML enhanced. With EFXWEB you have an unlimited number of autoresponders allowed. You can setup as many or as few as you would like, and edit them any time you want.

Bandwidth

Bandwidth is the amount of data, measured in Megabytes per month that clients may transfer due to any traffic originating from or going to their website. A large part of this traffic is web traffic (website visitors) but can also be FTP (file uploads), Anonymous FTP (file downloads), and even E-mail services. All EFXWEB accounts are allowed 14gig of bandwidth a day. Bear in mind most websites won’t even transfer that amount in a month!

Domain

Domain or Domain name refers to the text address of your web site. In other words, www.efxweb.com is our domain. A domain is a one of a kind name and all domains must be registered through certified registrars, like www.networksolutions.com . Cost can range from $70.00 and down for the first two years. AT EFXWEB we will not charge you additional fees to register or transfer your domain to our servers. The only fee incurred for this is from the registrar. If you would like to park a domain (register in now, develop it later) This can be done for a small yearly free. See our Services page.

E-Mail

E-mail is short for Electronic Mail. It works somewhat like real mail in that you simply send and receive letters from your “mailbox”. The difference is that E-mail is sent instantly with no postage charges. You can also “attach” files to your e-mail for transfer. At EFXWEB all accounts have up to 100 e-mail addresses to use. You can configure 99 of them to whatever you wish. The 1 you can’t is the default email to your domain. (yourdomain@yourdomain.com) This address is automatically setup with your server and can’t be changed. Any emails sent to your domain that don’t have the name of an account you have setup will automatically be sent to your default account.
So, if you want to have addresses of webmaster@yourdomain.com, sales@yourdomain.com, info@yourdomain.com, etc, but you will be checking all these addresses yourself, you don’t need to create them, the mail to any address you don’t define will come to your default account anyway. Cool huh?

The email protocol we use is POP (post office protocol) so your incoming servers name will be pop.yourdomain.com. Your outgoing server will be smtp.yourdomain.com (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol).

Excite! Search engines

With EFXWEB, you can create an unlimited number of Excite! search engines from your website. Using the same patented technology used by Excite!, you can choose which areas of your website are searchable.
Create them on your virtual server through the Personal Control Panel. Once installed, you can administer all of your search engines through a password protected web-interface.

FTP

File Transfer Protocol. Unlike most other hosting companies, EFXWEB allows clients to maintain more than one FTP account for the purposes of group participation on the construction or maintenence of a website. Clients can create additional FTP accounts in real-time, set the startup directory on such users, and delete extra accounts automatically. You are allowed a total of 25 FTP accounts.
There are no restrictions on your FTP accounts, however, you are responsible for the content on your website. This includes content uploaded through any FTP accounts you give out. In short, you should be selective in who you give extra FTP accounts to.

To use FTP, you need an FTP client program like CuteFTP at www.globalscape.com or WS-FTP at www.ws-ftp.com The FTP address for your master account will be ftp.yourdomain.com and will use the login and password you were given when you signed up for the account. NEVER give out this information to ANYONE! It will give them total access to your entire server! If you want to give someone access, create a new account for them and only give them access to the dir they need.

HTML

Hypertext Markup Language. This is the language that World Wide Web pages are written in so they display in a web browser. It is basically made up of control command for formating of text and images. Do to the popularity of graphical editors like Frontpage form Microsoft and NetObjects Fusion from NetObjects to name a few, it is no longer completely necessary to know HTML to develop web pages.

Error Pages

Create custom error pages on your virtual server. Through your Personal Control Panel, you can specify custom HTML documents to be displayed when an error is encountered with your website. Such errors include Internal Server Errors, File Not Found, Unauthorized, and more.

File Manager (web interface)

The file manager uses the HTTP (Hyper-Text Transfer Protocol) to upload files. This is not the conventional method of transferring large files from one computer to another. Therefore, if you are trying to upload files greater than 250KB in size, it is recommended that you do so via FTP (File Transfer Protocol) which is the standard protocol for transferring files. this accessed through the “account extras” in your Personal Control Panel.

Frontpage (microsoft)

Microsoft's FrontPage 2000 is a client/server combination application which allows clients to create dyamic websites on their virtual server quickly and easily without any programming knowledge.

Interface, Web email

You can access your email to send and receive messages form your web browser, using your personal control panel.

Log Files

Website statistics are all primarily based on raw log files from the webserver. EFXWEB uses Apache version 1.3.3, which creates an access log and an error log for each virtual server. These logs provide the raw data for statistics programs to use and analyze. Raw logs are updated in real-time and rotated on a monthly basis. You have full access to the log files for your virtual server. These can also be very helpful when diagnosing troublesome scripts.

Macromedia Shockwave

Shockwave  provides breakthrough full motion content to a web page and is fully supported by EFXWEB. The only drawbacks to Shockwave media use are that visitors must have the player installed and it can dramatically slow down the load time of your page. See the Macromedia page for more info.

Mail Forwarder

Email forwarders are simply accounts which forward any incoming email to it to another address. For example you could set info@yourdomain.com to forward to yourname@aol.com. These are easily configured through your Personal Control panel. At EFXWEB you have unlimited numbers of forwarders.

Mail List

Mailing List Manager version 2.0 by CGI-World is a premium web-based e-mail list management application. The program supports an unlimited number of e-mail lists, all of which can cover different topics and separate subscribers. Through a web-interface form, vistors can automatically add, modify or remove their subscription to any single mailing list available. This is accessed via your Personal Control Panel.

Majordomo

Majordomo is a program which automates the management of Internet mailing lists. Commands are sent to Majordomo via electronic mail to handle all aspects of list maintenance. Once a list is set up, virtually all operations can be performed remotely, requiring no intervention upon the postmaster of the list site.
Unlike other webhosting providers who offer MajorDomo, we allow you to custom configure your MajorDomo mailing lists automatically in real-time. While MajorDomo usually requires the administrator to install it for each user who wishes to us it, we have configured MajorDomo to install automatically on your account at your request. With automatic list setup and auto configuration, you do not have to wait for a human being to make your changes!  Just access it in your Personal Control Panel!

Miva

Miva allows you to create dynamic content on your website easily and quickly. EFXWEB fully supports this popular server side scripting language. Commerce, database, logic-flow, and Internet protocol access is fully integrated into the small footprint Miva Engine. Operating as a tag pre-processor on the server, the engine is completely compatible with all web browsers. See the MIVA website for more info.

MySQL

MySQL is a true multi-user, multi-threaded SQL (Structured Query Language) database server. SQL is the most popular database language in the world. MySQL is a client/server implementation that consists of a server daemon mysqld and many different client programs and libraries.
With your account, you are allowed to create and maintain 5 different mySQL databases with 5 users each. Through our web-interface, you can create/delete mySQL databases and credit/delete and assign mySQL users to specific databases.
You access MySQL through the Personal Control Panel. There we have some great tutorials to teach you how to use it.

Password Manager

With Password Manager, you can automatically allow visitors to automatically subscribe themselves for access to a password protected area of your website for a specific time period. As an alternative, you can require that you approve all applications before permitting access. Automatic expiration and e-mail warnings of near expiration of subscription are also options with Password Manager.
Password Manager installs directly from the Personal Control Panel and automates all functions, including outgoing e-mails for notification of subscription renewal, account closure, and other functions.

POP3 E-Mail

Not to be confused with basic mail forwarders, POP3 accounts come with their own distinct login and password and allow for the sending and retriving of e-mail from the same account. Most organizations assign each employee their own POP3 e-mail account.
With an EFXWEB Account you have a total of 100 email accounts to control through the PCP.

PERL

PERL is a programming language used for developing server side scripts that help with background functions of your website. Anything from a guestbook, to a full discussion forum, or shopping cart system can be written in PERL. EFXWEB fully supports the latest version of PERL on all virtual servers. PHP

PHP is a server-side, cross-platform, HTML embedded scripting language fully supported by EFXWEB. PHP is especially popular with those who use mySQL as PHP can be used as a front-end to mySQL databases. CommuniTech.Net runs PHP as an Apache webserver module.

Python

Python is an interpreted, interactive, object-oriented programming language similar to Perl. Python has quickly become a popular server-side scripting language. Our version of MySQL module is compiled into Python so you can do direct queries to your database with Python routines.

Personal Control Panel

The Personal Control Panel is a very powerful web browser accessable control point for just about everything to do with your acccount. From setting up email and ftp accounts, checking your mail, installing account extras, checking status of your account, managing all your password, uploading files, and tons more!

Real Networks G2

Our hosting server from Real Networks allows for 100 concurrent streams per webserver over the RTSP protocol, a protocol developed by Real Networks to be  optimized for delivery of real audio/video content. Unlike the HTTP protocol,  your content will stream on your virtual server. Our G2 server is backwards  compatible with Real Audio 4.0 and later.

SMTP Server

SMTP server refers to your outgoing email server. The address for your outgoing mail is smtp.yourdomain.com

Telnet/SSH

Telnet/SSH access allows you to perform easy maintenance of your  site in a UNIX shell. you are able to roam through your site, change  permissions, move files, delete files, and debug scripts. Compiling programs is  also possible. Telnet access also allows for manipulation of mySQL databases. All accounts come with one shell account. SSH, or Secure Shell, is very similar to Telnet only that the login and password information (authentication) is  encrypted from client to server, making transmission of data more secure.

Sub-Domains

A sub-domain means simply this: if your domain is http://www.efxweb.com then a sub-domain would be http://service.efxweb.com. Sub-domains can be any name you want. You are entitled to up to 25 sub-domains off of your  domain. Sub-domains are setup through the Personal Control Panel and can be created, modified, and deleted at anytime.

SSL

Secure Sockets Layer is a protocol which encrypts all data communicated between  client/server to ensure there can be no intercepts of the data by third parties  and ensures that communication is between the intended party.
EFXWEB's anonymous secure domain (secure-website.net) allows you to take advantage of the SSL protocol and maintain the independence of your virtual server without being associated with EFXWEB.com. Using our anonymous secure ID will save you approximately $300, and you can use our secure ID with absolutely no warning prompts!

Shopping Cart

EFXWEB offers 2 options for shopping cart (E-Commerce) packages with all accounts. The first is included free with all accounts: The Hassan Cart system. The second is: our custom designed EFXWEBSHOP E-Commerce system for an additional monthly charge.

The Hassan Cart program allows visitors to your on-line shopping site to collect items in a virtual shopping cart over multiple product web pages without losing the items ordered. The cart keeps track of what the shopper has ordered with a SID (Shopper I.D). There are no cookies used, so the software will work through  a firewall and with older browsers.
The Hassan Shopping Cart supports an unlimited number of items for your online store. Therefore, you can continuously add new items for purchase on your website  without any problems. Visitors to your website can purchase multiple items from the same order.
Additionally, the Hassan Cart supports up to 6 different shipping options as well as the ability to charge sales tax based on the state. Customers can pay either by check or credit  card, depending on your configuration. The Hassan Cart offers complete  flexibility for payment and well as shipping options.

Webspace

Webspace is the amount of disk space on the server you have for use. This space is used to store all files needed for your website, including HTML files, image files, CGI scripts, multimedia files, and any other files used for your website. All accounts have 350Meg of space allocated. You can track the amount used in your Personal Control Panel.
